Story

PLEASE BUY SOME BRICKS FOR LIVINGSTONE & SARAH'S NEW HOME.

Hello, my name is Heather Hallam and I live in the Geelong region of Victoria. Through Compassion Australia, I am a co-sponsor with Mark Wilkinson of 18 children from some of the poorest countries in the world.

Earlier this year, when Mark & I went to Uganda to visit Livingstone, one of our very poor sponsor children, we discovered that the very tiny one roomed mud brick 'home' in which he and his mother (Sarah) had been living, had fallen down in the wet season, due to repeated flooding by a nearby polluted drain.

Sarah is a single mum (Livingstone's dad died when Livingstone was only 3 years of age). Due to severe poverty and the lack of social security support by the Ugandan Government, Sarah does not have sufficient funds to pay rent. This has left them in a very vulnerable position.

So that Livingstone & Sarah do not have to live on the street, Mark & I are currently paying for them to rent a nearby property. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to do this on a long term basis.

$10,000 Australian dollars is required to build a very small 2 roomed home for Sarah & Livingstone. It will be on a solid raised concrete base, so that the property cannot be flooded and will have a tiny shop area at the front of the house for Sarah to sell food items and create very much needed income.

Compassion Uganda has produced a very detailed proposal for the building of the new home. It includes a detailed budget, a building activity plan and plans for a completion report to be given, once the house has been built.

Due to our financial commitments to other poor children, Mark & I cannot afford to fund the $10,000 Australian dollars required for the building of Livingstone & Sarah's new home.

Thus, I am urgently seeking public support to raise this money via people buying 'bricks' valued at $10 per 'brick'. The greater the number of 'bricks' purchased with each donation, the sooner the house can be built. We need a total of 900 bricks to be bought, as we already have about $1,000 (100 bricks) from previous donations.

Your purchase of 'bricks' is extremely appreciated by Livingstone and Sarah. On their behalf please accept their thanks and gratitude for your very kind and generous support to help build their new home.
